Who We Are

The MIA Team

The Micro Insurance Academy is a project of Sarvajan Unnati Bodhini (SUB) Charitable Trust.

The lead trustee of SUB is Shri Dharmendra Kumar, who joined in this endeavor by Shri Sanjeev Kumar Bhanot and Dr. K. C. Mishra.

A convinced and committed disciple of Mahatma Gandhi and a keen observer and commentator of the development of insurance activities in the Indian Subcontinent, Shri Dharmendra Kumar has now shifted his attention from the study of the history of the insurance industry to involvement in the nascent microinsurance activity at the bottom of the pyramid in rural areas and amongst the urban poor.

The Trustees of SUB are aided in their mission by the founding Chairman of the Micro Insurance Academy, Prof. Dr. David M. Dror. Prof. Dror is an internationally recognized authority in micro health insurance, whose reputation was gained through the conceptual framework he developed on ways to link poor communities with reinsurance (a concept he called “Social Re“) and the seminal volume Social Re Insurance: A New Approach to Sustainable Community Health Financing (with A. Preker; published by World Bank and ILO). David has extensive field experience working with grassroots groups in low-income countries. He holds a DBA (Magna cum Laude) and a PhD (Summa cum Laude).
