Following the success of last years reinsurance school, the Micro Insurance Academy (MIA) held the 2nd Reinsurance School for Micro Insurance Schemes at the India International Centre in New Delhi Oct. 15-17, 2008. Nearly 50 people traveled from around India and abroad to see presentations given by international experts and learn how reinsurance can protect micro insurance units.

Bringing Micro Health Insurance to Orissa: Madhyam Foundation, MIA and AWO International announce new partnership!

It is with great excitement that the MIA announces their partnership with Madhyam Foundation to coordinate an effort to provide responsive, community-based micro health insurance to 100,000 people in three districts of Orissa. Our partner, AWO International, has agreed to support this project over two years, recognizing the critical need for health financing among the poor in Orissa.

Micro Insurance Academy enters Ashoka's Changemakers Competition online

The Micro Insurance Academy has entered Ashoka's Changemakers online challenge, “Banking on Social Change: Seeking Financial Solutions for All.” This is a global competition that aims to unearth the most innovative and cutting-edge methods that allow financial security to become a reality for everyone. By being part of this competition, we have an opportunity to get the word out about the power of community-based micro insurance schemes, and to invite others to join our work.

Inaugural Issue of "Micro Insurance Voices" Released!

A year ago, to the day, the Micro Insurance Academy (MIA) officially inaugurated its operation in New Delhi, India.  Today, as we celebrate one year of successful operations, we are pleased to announce the release of the first edition of our quarterly newsletter "Micro Insurance Voices".

The Micro Insurance Academy’s Chairman, David Dror, and Honorable Minister Oscar Fernandes provided the key note addresses at this year’s 2nd Asian Conference on Microinsurance “Microinsurance: Regulating Insurance for the Masses” held July 23 & 24 in Mumbai.

Following the success of last year’s reinsurance school, the Micro Insurance Academy will hold the “2nd Reinsurance School for Microinsurance Schemes” on 15-17 October 2008 at the India International Centre in New Delhi, India.

The Reinsurance School is designed for managers of community based micro insurance schemes, micro insurance promoters and managers of NGOs & MFIs contemplating launching their own micro insurance scheme.

Orissa communities unite with the Micro Insurance Academy (MIA) & Madhyam Foundation to develop community-based health insurance

This July, the Madhyam Foundation and the Micro Insurance Academy (MIA) conducted a workshop to launch an exciting new project to bring micro health insurance to poor communities in the state of Orissa, India.

Micro Insurance Academy and Save the Children conduct workshop in Nepal with local stakeholders

The Micro Insurance Academy (MIA) and Save the Children met in Kathmandu July 14-16 to conduct a workshop with local NGOs on community based micro insurance. The three day workshop included presentations on the current state of health care provision in Nepal, the advantages of community based health insurance, the sustainability of the micro insurance schemes, and steps for moving forward.
