The Micro Insurance Academy forms strategic alliances to promote micro health insurance in South Asia (March 2008)

Save the Children (U.S.) and the Micro Insurance Academy have formed a strategic alliance to introduce microinsurance to resource-poor communities in Nepal.

This recently formed consortium with Save the Children seeks private insurers and reinsurers to serve as socially responsible 3rd party contributors, who in return will acquire a solid understanding of the business process surrounding microinsurance along with valuable technical expertise that can be applied to schemes elsewhere.

A similar consortium has been formed between the Micro Insurance Academy and French non-governmental organization Planet Finance.

Planet Finance is a development organization whose aim is to alleviate poverty worldwide through the development of microfinance.
This partnership will introduce micro health insurance to resource-poor communities in Sri Lanka as a precursor to larger projects involving life and property micro insurance throughout South Asia.

The project, known as “Strengthening the access of micro health insurance in South Asia”, also seeks private insurers and reinsurers to assume a risk-sharing role in the agreement.
