MIA & Save the Children create a consortium to introduce microinsurance to resource-poor communities in Nepal. The MIA and Save the Children (USA) signed an MoU to launch a unique community-based micro health insurance project in Nepal. The unique feature of this project is the intensive involvement of local communities in designing the microinsurance products and in operating the insurance system at grassroots level.

In the last month, the consortium opened a call for expressions of interest to act as the Reinsurance Partner for this project. The call is now closed, and several expressions of interest have been recieved and are being reviewed. The consortium will hold a workshop in July 2008, to work out all the issues leading to implementation. Grassroots partners from Nepal as well as shortlisted reinsurance partners will participate.
