Micro Insurance Academy and Save the Children conduct workshop in Nepal with local stakeholders

The Micro Insurance Academy (MIA) and Save the Children met in Kathmandu July 14-16 to conduct a workshop with local NGOs on community based micro insurance. The three day workshop included presentations on the current state of health care provision in Nepal, the advantages of community based health insurance, the sustainability of the micro insurance schemes, and steps for moving forward.

The workshop concluded with the signing of a Declaration of Understanding, affirming the participants’ commitment to launch and scale up community-based microinsurance schemes following the mutual model. The newly formed consortium’s aim is to provide financial protection to resource poor communities through the access to health, life, property, and other forms of insurance. The consortium unanimously agreed to support the project and began assigning tasks for moving forward.

The event was the result of a recent alliance formed between MIA and Save the Children. The consortium is dedicated to improving the overall health and financial stability of underserved communities throughout Nepal.

Following the momentum from this exciting event, teams from the consortium will conduct meetings and workshops with the intent to solidify the roadmap to implementation as well as broaden their coalition to support low income people in Nepal.
