Shramik Bharti conducts health camps in UP during June-July 2011
The hot dry summer followed by heavy monsoon rains can be disconcerting for many farmers toiling on their lands across northern Uttar Pradesh due to extreme climatic conditions. The harsh weather conditions bring with them a plethora of illnesses which puts the poor communities at severe risk as it adds financial and emotional burdens. To ease the out of pocket expenditure arising out of illnesses and reduce the seasonal morbidity rate, one of MIA’s partner ‘Shramik Bharti’ working in Rasoolabad block in Uttar Pradesh, organized three health camps in tandem with the Health department (Community Health Centre of Rasoolabad, Kanpur) during June 2011. The camps focused on prevention of diseases prevalent in summer and the rainy season. In these camps, complimented with OPD services, ORS powders, vitamins and general medicine were distributed. The camps were attended by 271 people, including 78 CBHI beneficiaries. At least 10 more camps are scheduled to be held in July 2011 to cover the remaining villages of the block.
