At the 15th award ceremony of Asia Insurance Industry Awards, held in Singapore on Oct 31st and attended by more than 600 senior executives from the industry, the Micro Insurance Academy (MIA) www.microinsuranceacademy.org was awarded the “Educational Service Provider of the Year 2011 Special Award” to honor its exceptional contribution of bringing insurance to the masses. MIA is the recipient of this award for the second consecutive year, and the only awardee working in the microinsurance domain.

Asia Insurance Review, the organizers of the Asia Insurance Awards, received more than 500 nominations from around the globe; only 45 finalists were selected by a distinguished jury, of whom only 15 winners were awarded, and MIA among them. The jury consisted of 29 judges who are accomplished leaders, practitioners and regulators from the insurance industry in Asia and around the world.

Mr. Dharmendra Kumar, the lead Trustee of MIA, stated, "In a very significant 'Social Security' month of the year, Micro Insurance Academy, being awarded the Asia Insurance Industry Award in Singapore for "exceptional contribution of bringing insurance to the masses" is a well rewarded impetus for a dedicated Academy team led by Dr David Dror. The Micro Insurance Academy and its team have been rendering a valuable service among the low income rural communities in Odhisa, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Nepal etc. since 2007, to develop awareness and promote community initiative through mutual help and cooperation to care for their own health and welfare to their family".

Dr. David Dror, MIA’s Chairman said that “Through this award MIA was recognized for having raised the benchmark of quality management standards that can be applied to implementation of microinsurance at the base of the pyramid”.

MIA’s innovative educational tools have won huge applause from peers and have positioned MIA as the front runner in technical assistance in microinsurance domain-knowledge, and insurance education more generally.
