ADVISORY SERVICES

Background

As part of our efforts to achieve organizational sustainability, the MIA cross subsidizes some of our technical support activities with advisory services. For organisations seeking consultations in the field of microinsurance, risk management, health financing and social protection, the MIA has a wealth of insight that can be shared.

Our Capacities

Our national and international experts are dynamically involved in the sector and their experience has earned the trust of previous organisations that have sought our services. Our team has sectoral knowledge that can be applied with both a development and a business perspective, and we have strong links to grassroots organisations.

Our Approach

We act in a professional manner and offer fully integrated services. We work closely with each client to develop solutions that are specific to their needs. The MIA promotes ethical development of the sector and will help each client in achieving their short-term objectives.

Action

Our portfolio for advisory services includes the development of new tools and frameworks used to link microinsurance with collective action and social protection, and the facilitation of internal discussions to incorporate microinsurance into organizational strategic plans. The MIA also conducts feasibility studies on public-private-partnerships and presents health financing and system alternatives.

Some examples of our recent advisory services assignments include:

  • Assisting the Government of Meghalaya and the International Fund of Agriculture and Development (IFAD) in the development of a strategy for composite microinsurance (livestock, health, life) for rural communities.
  • Carrying out a mid-term review of a post-tsunami microinsurance initiative for CARE and Allianz SE.
  • Conducting an assessment of the potential for microinsurance in Fiji for the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
  • Advising the Central Tibetan Authority on the establishment of a holistic Tibetan Medicare System for the Tibetan population in India and Nepal.
  • Conducting a multi-country (Bangladesh, China and Vietnam) study on the potential for enterprise-based microinsurance for a public-private-partnership consortium.
  • Carrying out a mid-term evaluation of community-based micro insurance implementation in Cambodia for Malteser International.
  • Performing a situational analysis on health financing and public financial management for the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute in Tanzania.
